    ABOUT

On these 15 small canvases, Mark Cazalet has represented the incidents said to have taken place on Christ's final journey, setting each episode in 'corners' or 'untidy places' that are well known to him. A trail that begins under the west way, takes in a footbridge over the grand union canal, the penguin pool at London zoo, and Kensal Green cemetery. He seeks to show, in his words, how 'injustice, betrayal, judgement, suffering, redemption and love become visible in our midst, in our time'.

    MEET THE ARTIST

    mark cazalet

Mark Cazalet is a contemporary artist based in Suffolk and London. He has exhibited across Europe and in the USA. over the last 10 years he has had solo exhibitions in London, Cambridge, Suffolk and salisbury cathedral, and engaged with a variety of materials including mosaic, stained glass, etched/engraved glass, and Lino woodcut.

Cazalet's work has aroused great admiration. Recent commissions included the Millennium window at Worcester Cathedral and Memorial windows to leading Methodist Preachers in Wesley's Chapel, City Rd, London. He was one of a number of artists who were invited to produce a set of Stations of the Cross for a special exhibition in the Diocese of Bury St Edmonds in Lent 2000. He has commented 'My set was painted during the winter months of November 1998 to February 1999. Although destined for the mainly rural churches of East Anglia. I felt it was essential to enact the drama within a walking radius of my Ladbroke Grove home. This dual decision of a familiar and contemporary setting gave the paintings the 'incarnation' immediacy I wanted to evoke.'
